Charging a car is the largest load most houses ever add. That is exactly why it belongs with your panels and your battery, not separate from them.
Why charging and storage belong together
A mid-size electric car swallows between 40 and 80 kWh. Charge it from the grid and you pay the full rate. Charge it during the day from your own panels and it costs you nothing extra. A smart charger looks at what is spare and charges exactly that.
What the power rating means

| 7.4 kW (1 phase, 32 A) | About 40 km per hour. The common choice on single phase. |
| 11 kW (3 phase, 16 A) | About 60 km per hour. Needs three phases at the meter. |
| 22 kW (3 phase, 32 A) | About 120 km per hour. Only sensible on a heavy connection. |
Charging from the battery: can you?
Technically yes, but rarely wise. You push the power through an inverter twice and lose a little at each step. Charging on solar surplus beats charging from storage.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a licence for a charger?
No. The DGEG notification is about generation, not consumption. It does need a qualified electrician to connect it.
Does the charger work during an outage?
Only if it is on the backup circuit and there is enough charge. Usually you would rather keep that power for the house.
Which brand do you recommend?
We name a brand once we have seen it supplied and connected ourselves. That is how it went with the batteries too.
